Principal Software Engineer, Genomics

Regeneron is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to join our Genomics team.

This role will lead the design and development of scalable software systems for genomic data analysis and drug discovery. You will work at the intersection of software engineering and genomics to build tools that power Regeneron's genetic research.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement high-performance software systems for genomic data processing
• Build scalable pipelines for analyzing large-scale sequencing data
• Develop tools and platforms used by computational biologists and geneticists
• Lead technical architecture decisions and mentor engineering team members
• Collaborate with scientists to translate research needs into software solutions
• Ensure code quality, testing, and documentation standards

Requirements

• MS/PhD in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, or related field
• 8+ years of software engineering experience
• Strong proficiency in Python, Java, or Scala
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
• Knowledge of genomics data formats (FASTQ, BAM, VCF) and workflows
• Experience with distributed computing frameworks (Spark, Nextflow, or similar)
• Track record of leading complex technical projects

Preferred

• Experience in pharmaceutical or biotech industry
• Familiarity with machine learning applications in genomics
• Contributions to open-source bioinformatics tools
