Job Description
Valo Health seeks a senior computational biologist to lead software and data products for Target Identification and Prioritization. This role bridges biology, computation, product strategy, and engineering execution within the Translational Platform Engineering team.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the product roadmap for Target ID software initiatives
- Gather and prioritize scientific requirements from internal stakeholders
- Convert use cases into technical specifications for engineering teams
- Build computational prototypes using Python
- Develop and maintain internal packages, reproducible workflows, and APIs
- Create documentation and onboarding materials establishing best practices
- Oversee cross-functional project execution with data and software engineering teams
- Implement engineering best practices including CI/CD and predictable demo schedules
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in computational biology, bioinformatics, systems biology, or computer science
- 6+ years in computational biology or data-driven discovery
- Minimum 1 year experience with software and data engineering teams
- Proficiency in Python and R with modern development frameworks
- Experience with omics/translational data analysis, ETL pipelines, and data modeling
- 1+ years leading complex projects as product owner
- Background supporting target identification, prioritization, or multi-modal analysis
Preferred Qualifications
- Dashboard development experience (Shiny, Dash, Streamlit, React, Vue.js)
- Cloud-native tools and platforms knowledge (AWS/GCP/Azure)
- Familiarity with drug discovery and development processes
