Job Description
This senior-level position leads teams within Valo Health's Statistical Genetics division, applying their Opal computational platform to identify and validate drug targets using genetic and multi-omic data. The role operates in a multidisciplinary environment alongside biologists, software engineers, and clinical experts.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct project teams of data scientists developing solutions to core scientific problems
- Collaborate with stakeholders to develop project plans, align teams, and establish priorities
- Work with genetic sequencing data, electronic medical records, and multi-omics datasets using R or Python
- Partner with drug discovery and clinical teams to ensure research relevance
- Champion coding standards, code review practices, and team collaboration
Requirements
- BS + 8-10, MS + 5-8, or PhD + 3-5 years in statistical genetics or computational sciences
- Experience leading matrixed teams with proven project management skills
- Demonstrated expertise with GWAS, QTL analysis, Mendelian randomization, and colocalization
- Background analyzing rare genetic variation (LoF analysis, burden testing, variant annotation)
- Experience with UKBiobank or similar integrated genomic/clinical datasets
- Proficiency in Python or R; basic knowledge of the other
- Familiarity with command-line interfaces, Git/version control, and collaborative coding practices
- Experience developing analysis pipelines or software packages
Preferred Qualifications
- Machine learning, probabilistic graphical modeling, or causal inference expertise
- EHR, PII/PHI data, or HIPAA compliance experience
- Cardiometabolic disease research background
- Drug discovery and development experience
