Principal Scientist, Reagent Bioinformatics
Job Description
Principal Scientist in the Reagent Bioinformatics subchapter at Roche Sequencing Solutions (RSS). Onsite role in Pleasanton/Santa Clara, CA.
Roche Sequencing Solutions is defining a new class of Next-Generation Sequencing with proprietary Sequencing by Expansion (SBX) technology. You will help solve unprecedented computational challenges inherent in unexplored molecular workflows and sequencing applications, and directly influence the trajectory of the state-of-the-art sequencing platform.
Key Responsibilities
- Proactively investigate "first-in-kind" technical challenges in novel sequencing prep and applications on the new SBX platform
- Design and prototype computational tools for cutting-edge applications where standard pipelines may not apply. Delve into internal and third-party tools to understand their assumptions and limits
- Develop a deep understanding of the interplay between reagent chemistry and data quality to recommend iterative improvements for laboratory workflows and bioinformatics pipelines
- Collaborate closely with wet lab and computational scientists on experimental design, data analysis, QC, and visualization
Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or a related quantitative field
- In-depth knowledge of NGS, molecular biology, human genomics, and the "why" behind various sequencing modalities
- Expertise in diverse NGS applications including single cell, spatial transcriptomics, NGS-based proteomics preferred
- Proficiency in Python and workflow managers (Nextflow or Snakemake) within distributed Linux environments
- Experience producing well-documented, reproducible code
- Strong desire to solve unprecedented problems and commitment to scientific rigor
- Ability to thrive in multi-disciplinary teams and communicate technical findings to varying audiences
