Job Description

The Opportuity

The Portfolio Analytics Principal is a strategic finance leader who shapes how Genentech anticipates market evolution, forecasts portfolio performance, and translates complex business signals into clear, actionable insights that drive decision-making at the highest levels.

This role sits at the intersection of strategy, forecasting, business performance, and advanced analytics. The candidate will partner closely with Genentech CFO, CMG finance team, GPS, Group Finance (eCOE), Investor Relations, Digital/Data & Analytics (DDA), and cross-functional teams to build a best-in-class portfolio intelligence capability—enabling Genentech to make faster, smarter, more patient-centered decisions.

This role requires a combination of executive presence, analytical depth, storytelling ability, and a modern digital mindset, including automation and AI-enabled analytics.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Business Partnering & Enterprise Influence

  • Serve as a trusted thought partner to senior stakeholders (Genentech CFO, CMG finance team, GPS, Group Finance (eCOE), Investor Relations, DDA, etc.), ensuring US insights align with the One Pharma Strategy, CMG priorities, and long-term enterprise commitments.

  • Translate business questions into analytical priorities, and ensure insights are decision-relevant, outcome-driven, and timely.

Forward-Looking Scenario Planning, Opportunity Identification, & Risk Anticipation

  • Contribute to building and scaling forward looking scenario planning: detecting early signals across market dynamics, competitive landscape, access environment, demand trends, and internal execution performance.

  • Integrate multiple data sources (sales, demand, payer, epidemiology, competitive intelligence, macro trends, etc.) to identify growth opportunities, business risks, and emerging portfolio inflection points.

  • Strengthen Genentech’s ability to anticipate near- and long-term portfolio direction with scenario thinking and predictive forecasting.

Analytics Systems, Automation & AI Enablement

  • Help to build, enhance, and automate the analytical tools and systems supporting portfolio performance and forecasting.

  • Partner with Digital/DDA teams to leverage AI and advanced analytics (forecasting automation, anomaly detection, scenario modeling, insight generation) to increase speed, accuracy, and scalability.

  • Help to shape analytics products across Finance, translating stakeholder needs into clear business requirements and ensuring continuous improvement of outputs and user experience.

Forecasting & Business Planning Leadership

  • Help to strengthen the Monthly Outlook process, with a heavy emphasis on forecasting accuracy, forward-looking insights, and executive-level storytelling.

  • Deliver robust portfolio revenue insights that inform Genentech’s P&L commitments to Roche and enable proactive performance management.

  • Support the Head of Portfolio Forecasting in shaping the strategic direction and evolution of the overall forecasting and insights service model.

Executive Storytelling & Decision Support

  • Develop compelling narratives around business performance and outlook, simplifying complexity into clear strategic implications for senior leaders.

  • Provide recommendations on scenarios, supporting leadership in making informed decisions.

  • Drive alignment across stakeholders by ensuring a consistent and trusted portfolio story across Finance, Strategy, and Enterprise reporting.

Capability Building & Talent Leadership

  • Build and continuously evolve the capabilities required for world-class portfolio analytics: tools, talent, workflows, governance, and operating model.

  • Mentor and develop analysts and forecasting professionals, strengthening business judgment, data literacy, and modern technical capability.
