Associate Principal Scientist – Biologics AI Innovation

AstraZeneca seeks an Associate Principal Scientist to lead the integration of state-of-the-art artificial intelligence with wet-lab discovery to advance biologics engineering and next-generation biotherapeutic design.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead AI strategies for biologics discovery emphasizing computational-experimental integration
• Develop machine learning models including protein language models and de novo design methods
• Bridge AI scientists, computational biologists, and wet-lab teams across US and global operations
• Guide data generation, curation, and quality for ML workflows
• Mentor junior scientists and foster team culture
• Contribute to publications, patents, and external visibility
• Support stakeholder decision-making through scientific communication

Required Qualifications

• PhD in Computer Science, ML, Bioinformatics, or related field with 5+ years experience, OR Master's with 8+ years
• Proven AI/ML application to biological/molecular design, particularly proteins and antibodies
• Hands-on expertise in deep learning for protein modeling, generative modeling, or molecular prediction
• Full ML lifecycle experience: preprocessing through deployment
• Integration of computational modeling with experimental workflows
• Python proficiency with PyTorch, TensorFlow, or equivalents
• Cloud-based ML and production system experience

Preferred: Antibody/protein engineering, de novo design, generative models, graph neural networks, Bayesian optimization

Salary: $144,649 - $216,973 annually
