Associate Director, Bioinformatics Development

Associate Director, Bioinformatics Development at Veracyte. Remote (US), South San Francisco, or San Diego.

Direct the strategy and development of next-generation minimal residual disease (MRD) laboratory-developed tests. Technical leadership role operating at program and portfolio levels within a regulated diagnostics environment.

Scientific & Technical Leadership

• Direct bioinformatics strategy for MRD assay design across multiple programs
• Serve as senior reviewer for assay concepts and detection methodologies
• Apply expertise in cancer genomics and NGS technologies

Assay Development & Validation

• Lead analytical study design for development and validation phases
• Oversee production-ready pipeline development supporting MRD analysis
• Ensure CAP/CLIA and FDA compliance throughout development

Leadership & Influence

• Mentor bioinformatics scientists and senior scientists
• Communicate complex analytical concepts to varied stakeholder levels
• Support team career development

Required Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Genomics, Biostatistics, or related field
• 8+ years relevant experience; minimum 5 years management in biotech/diagnostics
• Demonstrated NGS-based assay development experience for clinical diagnostics
• Hands-on ctDNA MRD assay experience
• Strong Python programming skills with production pipeline development expertise
• Experience in design-controlled, regulated environments (CAP/CLIA LDT)
• Proven track record collaborating with wet lab teams

Preferred Qualifications

• AWS bioinformatics workflow experience (EC2, S3, Step Functions, Batch, Lambda)
• Understanding of germline/somatic mutation processes
• R programming knowledge
• Relational and non-relational database experience

• San Diego: $202,000 - $219,000
• South San Francisco: $220,000 - $231,000
