Job Description

A healthier future. It’s what drives us to innovate. To continuously advance science and ensure everyone has access to the healthcare they need today and for generations to come. Creating a world where we all have more time with the people we love. That’s what makes us Genentech!

The Translational Genomics and Proteomics Center at Genentech Research and Early Development integrates innovative genomic, proteomic, and computational approaches to advance our understanding of human biology and disease.

A position is available in the Ye Laboratory for a highly motivated and collaborative Scientist 2 to support translational research efforts through the application of molecular biology, immune cell engineering, and single-cell genomics technologies.

The successful candidate will contribute to the development and execution of innovative experimental approaches aimed at understanding immune cell biology and disease mechanisms.

The Opportunity

  • Independently perform and troubleshoot molecular biology, cell biology, immune cell engineering, and single-cell genomics experiments with minimal supervision in support of translational research projects.

  • Conduct molecular assays including DNA/RNA extraction, reverse transcription, PCR, qPCR, cloning, plasmid preparation, and gel electrophoresis.

  • Culture, maintain, activate, differentiate, and experimentally manipulate primary human immune cells and mammalian cell lines for mechanistic and translational studies.

  • Execute, optimize, and support the development of single-cell sequencing workflows, including sample preparation, cell handling, library preparation, assay quality control, and implementation.

  • Perform cell engineering studies using genome editing approaches, including CRISPR-based perturbation, delivery, selection, and downstream functional characterization.

  • Analyze and summarize experimental data, troubleshoot technical challenges, and propose interpretations and next steps in collaboration with project teams and scientific leadership.

  • Maintain accurate experimental records, sample tracking systems, and data organization practices.

  • Present results at laboratory and project team meetings and contribute to collaborative research efforts and laboratory operations.

  • Stay current with emerging technologies and scientific advances relevant to the group's research areas.

Who You Are

  • Preferred qualifications include 5 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree or 3 years of relevant experience with a Master's degree in Immunology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Genomics, Bioengineering, or a related discipline.

  • Hands-on experience with molecular biology techniques, including nucleic acid extraction, RT-PCR, PCR, qPCR, cloning, plasmid preparation, and assay troubleshooting.

  • Experience with primary cell and mammalian cell culture, flow cytometry, immune phenotyping, and cell-based functional assays.

  • Experience with genome editing technologies, including CRISPR-based approaches and viral or non-viral delivery methods.

  • Familiarity with single-cell sequencing workflows, including sample preparation, library construction, quality control, and workflow optimization.

  • Ability to independently execute established protocols, troubleshoot routine to moderately complex technical challenges, and generate reliable, high-quality data with minimal supervision.

  • Strong organizational, communication, and data management skills.

  • Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and collaborate within multidisciplinary research teams.

Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting.
