We believe care should start before disease takes hold. As the Head of Functional Genomics, you will step into a pivotal scientific leadership role within our Translational Genomics and Proteomics (TGP) Center. Leading a world-class, multidisciplinary team, you will shape the scientific strategy and drive the execution of advanced functional genomics capabilities. Your work will directly bridge cutting-edge technology development and biological application to unlock breakthrough insights across our entire therapeutic portfolio.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Drive Scientific Strategy: Define and execute the global Functional Genomics strategy to support target identification, disease biology, biomarker discovery, and drug development priorities.

  • Lead High-Impact Capabilities: Oversee and advance large-scale capabilities in genome-wide screening, perturbation biology, cellular models, sequencing, and multi-omics data generation.

  • Foster Cross-Functional Synergy: Partner closely with Research Biology, Computational Sciences, Translational Medicine, and Development Sciences to turn complex data into meaningful portfolio impact.

  • Champion Technological Innovation: Evaluate, develop, and integrate emerging technologies—including laboratory automation and advanced screening platforms—to solve complex health challenges.

  • Cultivate Top-Tier Talent: Lead, mentor, and inspire a high-performing organization, creating an inclusive and scientifically rigorous environment where individuals thrive and grow.

  • Expand Strategic Collaborations: Establish and nurture external alliances with academic institutions, industry pioneers, and technology partners to keep Roche at the forefront of the industry.

Who You Are

You are a visionary scientific leader who thrives at the intersection of advanced technology and drug discovery. You possess deep scientific curiosity, a collaborative mindset, and a passion for developing people and leading through empowerment.

To be successful in this role, you bring:

  • Advanced Scientific Foundation: A PhD in Genetics, Genomics, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Computational Biology, or a closely related scientific discipline.

  • Proven Leadership & Research Experience: 10+ years of progressive experience within biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or advanced research environments, with a track record of leading high-performing scientific teams.

  • Deep Domain Expertise: Robust experience in functional genomics, including hands-on or strategic familiarity with CRISPR-based perturbation, single-cell or multi-omics technologies, translational profiling, or arrayed-based screening automation.

  • Strategic Influence: Exceptional communication and partnership skills, with a demonstrated ability to navigate matrixed environments and build consensus across diverse stakeholders.

  • Innovation Mindset: A strong record of innovation—evidenced by publications, presentations, or technology development—and a passion for translating cutting-edge science into life-changing healthcare solutions.
