- Data Analysis:Performs routine data analyses and report writing. Responsible for assuring quality of data, reproducibility of analyses and proper interpretation of results by working with others to implement appropriate definitions of and coding rules for data items, principled analyses and clear communication of results.
- Study Design:Responsible for statistical aspects of study design, including sample size, significance level, power, and the identification of appropriate tests and/or models for different types of studies. Learns to use specialized software. Learns the context of the studies, and the aspects of that context that lead to different strategies for design and implementation.
- Dana-Farber and Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center:Participate in protocol review process for the Scientific Review Committees (SRC) and the Institutional Review Board (IRB), under the guidance of the supervisor and/or mentor. May assume some responsibility on department committees.
- Manuscript Preparation:Drafts the statistical methods sections of a manuscript; assists in writing the results section; checks manuscripts for numerical accuracy; prepares tables and figures.
- Grant Preparation:Limited responsibility as a prerequisite is mastery in data analysis, study design, protocol review, and manuscript preparation May assist with grant preparation under the guidance and supervision of more senior staff.
- Research Portfolio Management:Learns to develop timelines and components for multiple routine projects; masters multi-tasking so that complex projects involving many interdisciplinary individuals move forward smoothly.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Computational Skills: Knowledge of UNIX/Linux and statistical software such as R or SAS
- Statistical Skills: Trained in statistical methodology, coding, data analysis and effective presentation of results. Understands the nuances of data wrangling and ability to use sound principles of reproducible research methods. Able to perform specified analysis methods and assess underlying assumptions
- Collaboration: Able to discuss and present results, share ideas accurately and communicate them effectively, both in writing and verbally with supervisory oversight
MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
The position requires a master’s degree in statistics or biostatistics, with no prior experience required.
