We are searching for the best talent for an Associate Director, Global Proteomics to be located in Cambridge, MA.


Do you want to use your hard earned skills and drive to make a difference in the lives of patients? This team and platform lead role combines scientific depth, operational leadership, and strong cross functional collaboration to deliver across the Johnson & Johnson portfolio. The candidate will lead Global Proteomics, one of three platform pillars within the Discovery Proteomic Platforms (DPP) group — alongside Chemoproteomics and Immunopeptidomics — in the Discovery Technologies and Molecular Pharmacology (DTMP) department of Therapeutics Discovery.

Lead a motivated team dedicated to deploying groundbreaking mass spectrometry proteomics technologies as we, together, tackle the challenges of target identification and validation as well as therapeutic optimization. Work across a leading multiomics organization to provide integrated insights across a variety of 'omics layers. Your team's data shapes study design, compound selection, and program direction across a broad portfolio with influence earned through scientific rigor and partnership with program teams across Oncology, Immunology, and Neuroscience. Work in an exciting, interdisciplinary environment, overlapping the different stages of the discovery pipeline. With your help, we will drive development of medicines for our patients!.


You will be responsible for:

  • Managing and developinga team of wet‑lab scientists; build an inclusive, feedback‑rich culture focused on scientific excellence, safety, and continuous improvement.
  • Establishing delivery frameworks with clear SLAs, cycle‑time targets, and prioritization aligned to portfolio decision points and pre‑portfolio (platform‑building) needs.
  • Planning, overseeing, and performing/providing oversight for proteomics studiessupporting target ID/validation, MoA elucidation, biomarker discovery, and therapeutic optimization.
  • Partnering closely with bioinformatics/data scienceto ensure robust QC, FAIR data practices, and decision‑ready analyses as well as to apply computational and AI-enabled approaches to proteomic data interpretation and decision support.
  • Partnering across the multiomics organizationto design integrated studies and interpret proteomic data alongside transcriptomic, genomic, and spatial readouts, delivering conclusions no single layer supports on its own.
  • Translating sophisticated proteomics findingsfor non‑experts and governance forums; influence study design and portfolio strategy across biology, chemistry, biologics, safety, DMPK, and clinical translation.
  • Shaping the platform's prioritiesand roadmap, balancing sustained portfolio deli

Qualifications / Requirements:

Education:

  • A Doctorate (in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Pharmacology or a related field) is required

Experience and Skills:

Required:

  • 8+ yearsof hands‑on experience in a proteomics laboratory, including4+ yearsin a drug discovery setting.
  • Proven track recordleading mass spectrometry operations(people, platforms, and processes) with measurable portfolio impact.
  • Hands‑onproficiency with LC and MS platforms, including (examples, not exhaustive):
  • LC:Waters ACQUITY/nanoACQUITY, ThermoVanquish Neo, Evosep One,Dionex UltiMate 3000
  • MS:ThermoOrbitrap Exploris,Orbitrap Eclipse,Orbitrap Fusion Lumos; BrukertimsTOF
  • Proficiency in automated, plate-based proteomic workflowsand atrack record of partnering with automation and engineering specialiststo implement and scale them (e.g., Beckman Biomek, Hamilton Microlab STAR, TECAN Fluent, Dynamic Devices Lynx).
  • Strong program and portfolio coordination skills; ability to manage multiple priorities, set SLAs, and deliver on time.
  • Familiarity with machine learning or AI-enabled approachesapplied to mass spectrometry data (spectral prediction, DIA search, automated QC and analysis) and comfort partnering with experts to evaluate and adopt.
  • Excellentinterpersonal skillsworking with diverse colleagues and proven ability to translate complex technical issues into clear language for any audience from scientists to executives.

Preferred:

  • Experience leading a shared platform, core, or centralized capability in a matrixed R&D organization.
  • Demonstrated success operating within an established technical organizationadopting and building on existing platforms, standards, and specialist expertise.
  • Exposure tosingle‑cell proteomics,spatial proteomics, protein–protein interaction mapping, and/or limited‑sample workflows.
  • Record ofscientific innovation(publications, patents) and external visibility (ASMS, HUPO presentations)
  • Knowledge offit‑for‑purpose quality systems(e.g., GLP‑adjacent discovery practices), laboratory information management systems (LIMS), and FAIR data principles.

The expected base pay range for this position is $137,000 to $235,750.

The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis.

  • Subject to the terms of their respective plans, employees and/or eligible dependents are eligible to participate in the following Company sponsored employee benefit programs: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, business accident insurance, and group legal insurance.

  • Vacation –120 hours per calendar year

  • Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays –13 days per calendar year
  • Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year
  • Parental Leave – 480 hours within one year of the birth/adoption/foster care of a child
  • Condolence Leave – 30 days for an immediate family member: 5 days for an extended family member
  • Caregiver Leave – 10 days
  • Volunteer Leave – 4 days
  • Military Spouse Time-Off – 80 hours
