Director, Translational Machine Learning

Iambic seeks a Director of Translational ML to bridge machine learning capabilities with drug discovery questions. This hands-on leadership role involves developing translational ML strategies across omics and imaging data to support patient selection, drug candidate identification, and biomarker discovery.

Key Responsibilities

• Create and execute translational ML strategy spanning multiple biomedical data modalities
• Contribute directly to technical work including model development and analysis
• Manage a team of 2-3 ML scientists; scale team as needed
• Translate biology questions into ML problems and results into actionable recommendations
• Guide Enchant (multimodal transformer model) development roadmap
• Co-design experiments with biology colleagues
• Establish evaluation frameworks connecting model performance to clinical outcomes
• Communicate findings to stakeholders and scientific conferences

Required Qualifications

• PhD in machine learning, computational biology, bioinformatics, or related field
• Hands-on expertise with omics data and biomedical imaging
• Industry experience in drug discovery or pharmaceutical R&D
• Understanding of experimental design across biological data types
• Strong cross-functional communication skills
• Team management experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Multi-platform omics expertise (transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, epigenomics)
• Multiple imaging modality experience (histopathology, cellular imaging, screening)
• Clinical trial data experience
• Foundation models/representation learning background
• Experience translating between ML and non-ML stakeholders
