Purpose

The Senior Director, Medical AI and Data will provide AI and Data leadership for GCSO to ensure that Medical Affairs priorities are aligned with broader GCSO, Innovative Medicine, and enterprise objectives.

Ultimately the goal is to embed Data and AI ways of working as the business norm by universally raising the capabilities and fluency of GMAF and GCSO. This role will lead and shape prioritized high impact scientific business initiatives, platforms and technologies to integrate them into a coherent Medical Affairs AI and Data ecosystem.

You will be responsible for

The successful candidate will partner closely with Medical Affairs leadership, IT, Global Commercial Data and AI, R&D, Communications, Patient Advocacy, Commercial, Legal/Compliance, Procurement, regional medical teams, and external partners to position Medical Affairs as a leader in compliant, practical, and high-impact AI-enabled transformation.

Key responsibilities include

  • Defining the transformation and sustained evolution of Global Medical Affairs through the strategic application of Data, AI, Automation and emerging technologies.
  • Deliver enhanced Scientific innovation and new ways of working through Data and AI capability building and workflow redesigns, leading to high impact transformation and continuing adoption across GCSO broadly with a specific focus on Global Medical Affairs.
  • Design operating model, talent strategy and governance framework to enable agile digital and AI transformation.
  • Implement and scale plan required to accelerate universal adoption of AI and Data across GCSO with a specific focus on Global Medical Affairs.
  • Track and report AI and Data metrics to demonstrate successes and value realization, in partnership with other groups in Global Medical Affairs, Global Commercial Data and AI, Global Market Access, regional partners and R&D.
  • Lead full scale change mindset through co-creation of customer centric solutions with key stakeholders both within MAF and cross-functionally.  Ensures the function remains a leading, future-ready strategic partner across the healthcare ecosystem.
  • Serve as a member of the Global Medical Affairs leadership team.

Requirements / Qualifications:

  • Minimum of twelve years of related experience with seven years in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.
  • Education Requirement: Bachelors degree, Masters/PhD preferred in Engineering, Operations research or Data Sciences.
  • Experience designing and delivering AI products, solutions, change management, and adoption programs across different groups
  • Ability to convert complex AI, digital, scientific, and operational topics into recommendations, training materials, SOPs, and scalable playbooks.
  • Proven ability to lead teams and influence organizational decisions at a senior level.
  • Experience collaborating with vendors and managing AI initiatives.
  • Successful track record in leading cross-functional matrix teams and delivering execution excellence.
  • Experience in Medical Affairs is highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated track record in AI/GenAI/agentic AI, AI adoption, agentic workflow design is highly preferred.

  • Up to 20% domestic and international travel required for this position.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is $196,000 and $342,700 USD.
